valentine's day morning.

valentine's day.
february 14, 2013.

the children woke up on the morning valentine's day to find their valentine bags filled with little treats.  i verbally tell me children how much i love them all the time and i hope they know this always but sometimes the best way to a child's heart is through candy and toys... followed by lots of hugs and kisses of course.  xoxo

making valentine's.

we had a crazy little valentine making party at our kitchen table a couple of weeks ago.  there were valentine's, stickers and candy scattered all over and three happy kids signing their names away.  even eden, who is four, did her best to print her name on each valentine.  she can write all the letters, just getting them in the right order is a work in progress.  one more year of making class valentine's is done and i have to say i am a bit relieved.  sigh.

jason's birthday.

my husband has never been excited about birthdays and even claims that he forgets his birthday until i remind him the night before.  not sure about that one.  i, on the other hand, like to make a big deal about birthdays so i was feeling super bad when we had to spend my husbands birthday "night" at my nursing orientation which lasted 3 hours.  when it was over, we quickly sped out of there so he could at least get one of his free meals at the "joes" chains. (if you love in gilbert, you probably know what i am talking about.) we walked in the door with five minutes to spare before closing time.  then we rushed through our dinner so we could get back home to our kids who had been waiting all day to wish their dad a happy birthday and see him blow out his candle.  when we got home, we had to pull the kids out of their beds, who were lying awake waiting for our return, to sing a happy birthday song to their dad before the day was officially over.

not exactly how i wanted to celebrate my husband's birthday and i'm pretty sure that isn't how he wanted to spend it either but he would never let you know his true feelings because he's such a great guy and he puts everyone else's feelings first... even on his birthday!  (i think ending the day with, not one, but two of his favorite german chocolate cupcakes made up for all the low points from the rest of the day.)

happy birthday to my best friend and the sweetest man on earth.

making jam.

i usually wind up making jam once year and being that we are on our last jar of homemade jam, that one time of year was now.  unlike the years past, this year i had a little helper.  when eden saw mama put her apron, she had to have her's on too.  from that point on, she meant business.  she was one tough strawberry smasher.  and she took her job very serious.  thanks eden bear for all your help.  you can be my kitchen wingman any time.

p.s. the jam turned out to be the perfect valentine's gift for the sweet sisters that i visit teach.  double whammy.

jonah, you are the cutest.

i can't believe this boy, sometimes.  he is my first kid to actually wear hat longer than 5 seconds.  some days he will wear it for hours.  it doesn't matter if he is outside playing, riding in the car or sitting and eating dinner (like he did in the pictures above).  he is getting to where he likes to have his picture taken too.  can you tell?

i start nursing school next week and these past couple of weeks it has hit me really hard that i won't be getting to spend as much time with my kids as i am used to.  especially time with jonah.  he is my baby and all my other kids got their mom up until it was time to send them off to preschool and regular school.  i feel a little guilty that i am robbing him of this time.  and it doesn't help when he does cute things like wear his knit pom pom hat all through dinner and then stops to pose for some pictures.  he melts my heart.  i just hope he knows how much i love him and how much i'm going to miss him while i am away at school and studying.
